About Sheri Ziemann
I am a freelance travel writer; my work has appeared in numerous local, regional and national publications, including the Chicago Tribune, Parents, Family Time, and other parenting publications, TravelWorld magazine, and a business travel column for Exhibitor magazine. I have written everything from brochures and ad copy to multi-million dollar proposals.
My article, "Merely Bright--or Brilliant?," won the first-ever
International Mensa Press Award in 2000. The article appeared in
the Chicago Tribune on September 19, 1999.
I was also awarded a journalism fellowship at Vanderbilt University in
1999, on Technology in Education, which boosted my interest in distance
learning, particularly for the gifted. My Tribune story, "Tapping into Technology can Energize a Child's Desire to Learn a Language" was one of the offshoots of that experience.
My ten year-old daughter Hope and I have formed a unique
Mother-Daughter Review Team; Hope was the youngest writer ever (she was
six at the time) to receive a byline in the Chicago Tribune for our "Points of View" story on holiday videos.
I also have a particular interest in writing about families and people
with disabilities. With over 100 million Americans suffering from at
least one chronic condition such as asthma, heart disease, diabetes and
osteoporosis, this ever-growing population's needs for special services
will explode very soon!
